Comparison

Sugaring, wax or laser?

All three remove hair — the difference is how, for how long and for whom. Five points below: how it feels, how long the result lasts, ingrown hairs, the cost over a year, and what suits whom.

Verdict

Sugaring — seven out of seven

Smooth skin after the very first visit — gently, in any season and on hair of any color.

“The fastest result and the most effective”
— Tamar, from a client review

Pain

Which is gentler?

All three methods work differently — so they feel different too.

  • Sugaring — the sugar paste is at room temperature and spread by hand, and it takes the hair in the direction it grows. The feeling is short and mild: a little noticeable the first time, less and less after that, because the hair grows finer each time.
  • Wax — it's hot and takes the top layer of skin along with the hair. So the feeling is sharper and the skin gets more irritated.
  • Laser — it doesn't remove the hair; it acts on the root with light. The feeling is different and depends on the machine.

Result

How long does the result last?

The main difference is when you see the result — the same day or at the end of a course.

  • Sugaring — the skin is smooth from the very first visit and stays that way for 3–4 weeks. The hair comes out by the root, so the new hair grows finer and sparser.
  • Wax — the result is similar: smooth skin from the first time, for a few weeks.
  • Laser — after the first session the skin isn't smooth yet: the result builds over the course, from session to session. In return, at the end of the course far less hair grows back.

Ingrown hairs

Where are ingrown hairs fewer?

Hair gets stuck under the skin when it isn't taken out by the root and breaks — the new hair can't find its way out and grows under the skin.

Sugar paste takes the hair in the direction it grows and doesn't break it, so after sugaring there are far fewer ingrown hairs. Wax pulls the hair against the direction of growth — and ingrowth is more common.

Laser does well here too: the less hair grows back, the less of it grows in. After sugaring, a simple rule helps — wait 2–3 days, then use a gentle scrub twice a week.

Cost over a year

What do you pay over a year?

We don't put numbers here — the price depends on the zone and is listed openly for every zone on the prices page. The main difference is how the cost adds up over a year.

Sugaring and wax — one visit every 3–4 weeks, and you pay only for what you had done that day. With us there's no course and no prepayment: you come when you want and stop when you want.

Laser — a course: several sessions, and the cost is concentrated in the course — more at the start, then rare visits. Which works out cheaper depends on your hair: on light or gray hair laser won't give a result, and then a course makes no sense.

What suits whom

How to choose your method

  • Laser — for dark hair on light skin, when you're ready for a course of sessions. Laser can't “see” light or gray hair; it isn't done on tanned skin or during pregnancy.
  • Wax — a quick result on hair of any color. Keep in mind that it's hot and takes the top layer of skin along with the hair — on sensitive skin you'll feel it.
  • Sugaring — hair of any color, gray included, in any season — on tanned skin too. It's possible during pregnancy (if in doubt, ask your doctor first) and safe for teenagers — under 16 with a parent.

Questions

What we're often asked about the comparison

Aren't sugaring and wax the same thing?

No. Wax is hot, goes on with a spatula or strips and pulls the hair against the direction of growth. Sugar paste is at room temperature, spread by hand, and takes the hair in the direction it grows — so there are fewer ingrown hairs and no risk of burns.

I have light or gray hair — what will work for me?

Sugaring or wax — both take the hair whatever its color. Laser works on dark pigment and can't see light hair, so on hair like that it won't give a result.

Which can I have in summer?

Sugaring and wax — in any season, on tanned skin too. Laser isn't done on tanned skin. After sugaring, just stay away from the tanning bed, sauna and intense sport for one day.

Which is possible during pregnancy?

Sugaring is possible during pregnancy too — the paste is natural and isn't heated; if in doubt, ask your doctor first. Wax is possible too; laser isn't done during pregnancy.
